Hidden Hope
This self-portrait by Maryna Yevtushyk is an intimate reflection of a soul suspended in search of warmth.
The black-and-white tones emphasize the emotional weight of stress, fatigue, and the lingering impact of a long period of uncertainty. Closed eyes suggest an inner space — a moment of reflection, or perhaps a silent prayer — in search of light within.
This image evokes an “angel of endurance,” holding on to the belief in renewal, even when the outside world has yet to offer relief.
Here, light exists as the quiet ability to believe, to endure, and to wait.
ESPOIR CACHÉ
Photo : Maryna Yevtushyk

Borodianka. Testimony of Destruction
5 April 2022, Borodianka, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
A Russian aerial bomb turned a residential building into emptiness. It took lives and walls, yet it could not take away the sky above Ukraine. Through this wound in concrete, light breaks through — a reminder that darkness is not eternal, and that the memory of those who lived here is now written in the sky.
A Ukrainian soldier who took part in the liberation of the town captures this moment in history.

Eduard Kryzhanivskyi

Interrupted Childhood. Radyslav: Forever Seven
9 April 2025, Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
A playground turned into a memorial. A Russian ballistic strike hit the heart of a residential neighborhood, taking the life of young Radyslav. A father’s gaze is fixed on the emptiness where his child’s world once existed.
This photograph bears witness to the deepest loss — and to the strength of love that allows a person to stand, even when everything around them is shattered. The light of this child lives on in all those who continue to resist the darkness.
UNE ENFANCE INTERROMPUE. RADYSLAV : À JAMAIS SEPT ANS
9 avril 2025, Kryvyï Rih, Ukraine · Photo : Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
Eduard Kryzhanivskyi

Born of Fire
This work embodies the “Angel of Light” as a symbol of resilience and perpetual renewal. The figure of a woman, intertwined with flames, evokes a phoenix rising again and again from the ashes.
In the fire of war, she does not burn — she gives life, sustains it, and keeps the light from fading, even in the darkest times.
The photograph is created using a double exposure technique, without the use of artificial intelligence, enhancing the sense of authenticity and depth — an image that feels alive, real, and indestructible.
NÉE DU FEU
Photo : Andrii Telibaiev

A Song Above the Ashes
Summer 2022, Kyiv, Ukraine. Photo by Valerii Leshchynskyi
This photograph captures a moment shortly after the liberation of the Kyiv region, when the land still carried the weight of recent devastation. Surronded by — the darkness of burnt metal; at the center — Iryna Antonovych, poet and songwriter, holding her guitar.
This portrait embodies the idea of the “Angel of Light.” The light surrounding her contrasts to the pitch-black darkness of the occupation. She does not look at the ruins — she listens to another melody: one of hope and renewal.
Her calm expression reflects an inner strength — the quiet certainty that light endures. Her song becomes an echo of resilience.

A HALO ABOVE THE ABYSS
26 March 2022, Kyiv, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
In the underground wards of a maternity hospital, time seemed to stand still — but life did not. The photograph shows Tetiana, one of many women whose motherhood began under the sound of shelling.
The light illuminating her silhouette in the half-darkness of the bunker becomes a symbol of hope that cannot be extinguished. This is a story of how love overcomes destruction, and how a child’s quiet anticipation becomes the most powerful form of resistance against darkness.

A Smile Through the Ashes
6 February 2022, Borodianka, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
Borodianka after occupation is marked by shattered concrete and heavy silence. Yet even among the ruins, moments of grace emerge. The photograph shows a rescuer who has just pulled a frightened cat from the debris. Her feline visage shines with genuine joy — because every saved breath is a small victory over great evil.
This is the true face of the “Angels of Light”: not only performing their duty, but nurturing life in all its forms, restoring faith that goodness endures.

The Light of Identity
24 August 2023, Kyiv, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
Independence Day in a country fighting for its very existence. In a metro station — a place that became a refuge for thousands — a woman raises the national flag. Her confident stride and white clothing stand as a quiet defiance against fear and darkness.
This photograph speaks of self-determination that lives within each person. No siren can silence the dignity and pride of belonging. The “Angels of Light” are also those who sustain the spirit of a nation.

Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
Independence Day in a country fighting for its very existence. In a metro station — a place that became a refuge for thousands — a woman raises the national flag. Her confident stride and white clothing stand as a quiet defiance against fear and darkness.
This photograph speaks of self-determination that lives within each person. No siren can silence the dignity and pride of belonging. The “Angels of Light” are also those who sustain the spirit of a nation.

The Strength of a Mother’s Faith: Waiting. Believing. Loving.
24 February 2026, Lausanne, Switzerland · Photo by Tetiana Yasna
Four years of war. Thousands of kilometres from home. Volunteer Viktoriia Shevchenko stands at a gathering in Lausanne, holding a portrait of her son Maksym, whose path remains obscured by war. He is among those who defended Ukraine, rescuing the wounded under fire and surviving against all odds.
Today, Viktoriia herself becomes a source of light for others — supporting, healing, and inspiring through her unwavering faith. Her belief stands as a shield over her family and her country.
This photograph speaks of the quiet heroism of waiting — of hope, of love, and of the life that will one day reunite families under a peaceful sky.

Light Among the Ruins
2022, Yahidne, Chernihiv region, Ukraine. Photo by Jim Kay
The photograph shows a destroyed church in Yahidne after the village was liberated. Once a place of prayer and quiet reflection, it became a witness to occupation and devastation.
Volunteers from Kyiv brought humanitarian aid to the local residents. The surrounding village lies in ruins, marked by loss and grief.
Inside the church, amid debris and traces of destruction, another presence emerges — human care, support, and solidarity. Light falling through the broken walls surrounds the figures, becoming a symbol of hope and renewal.
This image speaks of how light is born even in the deepest darkness — and how it leads us forward.
LA LUMIÈRE AU CŒUR DES RUINES
2022, Yahidne, région de Tchernihiv, Ukraine. Photo : Jim Kay
Jim Kay

A Path Across the Abyss
12 March 2022, Irpin, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
When bridges collapse, people take their place. Every minute here carried risk; every step across the shattered remains was a challenge. Soldiers and volunteers worked without rest, transforming a site of destruction into a corridor of life.
This photograph captures a moment of profound human solidarity, where the silence between explosions was filled with the focused breath of those who rescue — and those being rescued.

Those Who Weave Protection
5 March 2026, Nyon, Switzerland. Photo by Tetiana Yasna
The photograph shows women in the peaceful town of Nyon who contribute, day after day, to an unseen support of soldiers on the front line. Within the association “Vdoma”, they handcraft camouflage nets that are later sent to Ukraine as part of humanitarian aid.
This initiative connects people across Ukraine and Europe — wherever there is a willingness to help. Alongside the nets, other handmade items are created: socks, belts, covers — all made with care and heartfelt emotion for those on the front line.
In the background, a dugout covered with a similar net evokes the destination of this work. It is a story of a community and silent dedication — of people who come together in their free time to offer protection, support, and care.
Their work may remain invisible, but it becomes part of a security that saves lives.
CELLES QUI TISSENT LA PROTECTION
5 mars 2026, Nyon, Suisse. Photo : Tetiana Yasna

A Mother’s Kiss
2022, Kyiv, Ukraine. Photo by Jim Kay
The photograph shows Zoia Plotnikova with her younger son. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, she has been a volunteer at a humanitarian hub, coordinating the collection and delivery of medical supplies across Ukraine.
In her civilian life, Zoia was a yoga instructor. In September 2022, she volunteered to join her country’s defense forces as a medic. Along with her unit, she was among the last to leave Bakhmut.
This image captures a moment of tenderness — a mother’s kiss, filled with love, faith, and quiet strength. Wrapped in the Ukrainian flag, she represents thousands of women who stood up to defend the future of their children.
It is a story of love that gives strength to endure —and of hope that leads forward.
LE BAISER D’UNE MÈRE
2022, Kyiv, Ukraine · Photo : Jim Kay

Okhmatdyt. A Living Chain of Care
8 July 2024, Kyiv, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
This image is not only about destruction, but about extraordinary human effort. A Russian Kh-101 missile struck a place where hope resides, yet it could not destroy the foundation of dignity. Dozens of people, united in a single impulse, rushed to help — transforming a site of tragedy into a symbol of unwavering solidarity.
Each brick passed from hand to hand becomes a quiet prayer, and at the same time, an act of resistance against the darkness that threatens what is most precious.

Rays in the Twilight of Ruins
6 April 2022, Borodianka, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
The reflective stripes on the rescuers’ uniforms are the only elements that shine brightly amid the grey dust of a shattered city.
The image shows rescue workers operating at the site of large-scale destruction in Borodianka. They are the first to enter places the world hesitates to look at. This is a testimony to the dedication and sacrifice of those who protect civilians — not only from violence, but from oblivion — restoring names and faces from beneath the ruins of war.

RAYONS DANS LE CRÉPUSCULE DES RUINES
6 avril 2022, Borodianka, Ukraine · Photo : Eduard Kryzhanivskyi

Angel in an Armor of Ice
Winter 2026, Poltava region, Ukraine. Photo by Olha Serafymovych
The photograph shows Serhii Morhun, a colonel of the civil protection service, awarded the Order “For Courage,” III degree. The image captures a moment during an emergency response operation in extreme winter conditions.
When water meets fire in freezing temperatures, protective gear quickly turns into a heavy shell of ice. Every movement becomes a challenge, every breath an effort.
Within the context of the exhibition, he embodies a “guardian angel” — a figure whose resilience withstands even the forces of nature. His light is the warmth that sustains hope for those awaiting rescue.

Spring Underground
March 2022, Kyiv, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
A bunker becomes a home when it is filled with the smell of a warm meal and the fragrance of flowers. The photograph shows police officers who, during the darkest days of the capital’s defense, created moments of comfort for those returning from combat missions.
Flowers beside uniforms are more than a festive gesture — they are a quiet manifesto: humanity cannot be sealed underground. The Angels of Light do not only protect — they bring warmth.

Red — The Colour of Hope
18 March 2022, Kyiv, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
When everything turns grey with dust and concrete, the bright colours of rescuers become beacons for those in need. The image shows a medic tending to a young girl who was wounded during yet another shelling of a residential neighborhood in the capital.
This moment of focused tenderness amid chaos reminds us that the “Angels of Light” are always near. They prevent pain from turning into despair, healing the wounds of both the city and its people.

At the Edge of the Possible
30 May 2024, Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine · Photo by Eduard Kryzhanivskyi
In hospitals close to the front line, time is measured not in hours, but in heartbeats. The image shows surgeons in Zaporizhzhia whose hands and determination became the last barrier between life and death for a Ukrainian soldier.
Tired eyes above masks, precise movements despite exhaustion — this is the true cost of resilience. When the medical system operates under extreme pressure, these individuals become pillars, carrying the fragile light of human life on their shoulders.

The Cost of Saving Lives

An operating room in a children’s hospital in Boyarka. During the darkest months of the war, this place became a point of light for hundreds of people. Doctors who refused to leave their patients worked under the sound of shelling, saving every life brought to the hospital bed table.
No loss. No step back. This is a testimony to extraordinary dedication — the kind that transforms an ordinary person into a symbol of hope.

In Defense of Life
22 February 2026, Lausanne, Switzerland. Photo by Tetiana Yasna
In the photograph is military doctor Oleksii Volkov, who served on some of the most intense fronts of the war from the opposing assaults in the Kherson region to the strategic resistance of eastern Ukraine. As a combat medic, he saved countless lives under fire.
His service is a story not only of courage, but also of the sacrifice required for every life saved.
After numerous hospitalizations and severe psychological trauma (PTSD), he was demobilized in 2025 and came to Switzerland for rehabilitation.
In the image, he holds a Ukrainian flag signed by his fellow soldiers — a symbol of the country he defended. Behind him, a semi-transparent military hospital appears in muted tones, like a flashback that remains with him. This is the portrait of a person who continues his fight — now for recovery and for his future.
A story about those who save lives while risking their own. About strength that is not always visible. About memory’s that cannot be erased. And about hope — even after the darkest moments.

22 février 2026, Lausanne, Suisse. Photo : Tetiana Yasna

Warmth at the Heart of War
November 2025. Photo by Junior Sergeant of the 78th Air Assault Brigade, Valentyna Okhlopkova
In this image, a reconnaissance soldier of Ukraine’s 78th Air Assault Brigade is seen in a quiet, intimate moment. Here, the presence of weapons fades into the background, giving way to a simple act of care. In his hands, there is no force of destruction, but the warmth of life — something he continues to protect even in the midst of conflict.
The “light” in this photograph lies in the soldier’s ability to remain gentle and compassionate despite the harsh realities he faces. His gesture is almost unnoticeable, yet deeply human — an act of care that protects not only with strength, but with kindness.
This image speaks about the deeper meaning of resistance. About the light people stand for. And in his gaze, there is a quiet glow that endures through darkness — and overcomes it.
CHALEUR AU CŒUR DE LA GUERRE
Novembre 2025 · Photo : sergente subalterne Valentyna Okhlopkova (78e brigade d’assaut aéroportée)

The Face of a Defender
21 January 2023, Zhytomyr, Ukraine. Photo by Valerii Khymych
A spontaneous street photograph, captured in motion, holds within it the burden of an entire story.
The face of a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reflects fatigue and exhaustion, yet also a deep inner strength and resilience.
The composition brings together this living gaze with a memorial to Ukraine’s defenders — a symbol of remembrance for those who have lost their lives.
This image speaks of what lies at the heart of every struggle: behind every outcome are people — their courage, their sacrifice, and their belief that carries them forward.
LE VISAGE D’UN DÉFENSEUR
21 janvier 2023, Jytomyr, Ukraine. Photo : Valerii Khymych

Arrow of Unbreakable Will
Kyiv, 2024 · Photo by Garry Yefimov
The photograph captures veteran Vadym Maznichenko during the Invictus Games. Having lost his arm in war, he did not lose his purpose. Each of his shots is a triumph of spirit over circumstance. Drawing the bowstring with his teeth, he concentrates all his strength into a single precise movement.
Within the theme of “Angels of Light,” he embodies an angel of strength — reminding us that the light within a person can overcome any darkness or physical pain. His target points toward a future in which we are free and undefeated.
FLÈCHE D’UNE VOLONTÉ INDOMPTABLE
Kyiv, 2024 · Photo : Garry Yefimov
